Drexel University Online Receives Prestigious Awards in Distance Learning

Philadelphia, PA – (PR Web) April 24, 2008 – Dr. Kenneth E. Hartman, academic director at Drexel University Online recently received the 2008 Leadership in Distance Learning Program Administration Award from the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) for his innovative efforts and scholarly research in the field of distance learning. Drexel Online’s Master’s in Higher Education is also a 2008 USDLA Best Practices Award winner.

“For over a quarter-century, Dr. Hartman has been at the forefront of distance learning and one of our nation’s leaders in the field of educational technology,” said Reggie Smith III, USDLA 2008 International Awards Committee Chairperson. “Through his writing, teaching, and commitment to public service, Dr. Hartman has consistently and uniquely demonstrated the fusion between technology and learning.”

“Dr. Hartman’s numerous accomplishments in the field of distance learning and educational technology are best characterized as “innovative and ground breaking,” said Dr. Rodney Murray in his nomination letter of Dr. Hartman.

Dr. Hartman’s other recent awards and honors include: the 2006 Partners in Education Award from the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling, the 2006 Drexel School of Education’s Faculty Fellow and Associate Award, and the 2007 Penn Educator of the Year Award from the University of Pennsylvania.

“It’s always an honor to receive recognition for your work, especially when that recognition comes from your peers,” says Hartman.  “There has never been a better time to be an educator, as the technology today enables all students and teachers to access unlimited information, and the ability to discover and share new knowledge, with just a click of a mouse.”

Drexel’s online master’s in higher education program is also a USDLA Best Practices award winner for its overall growth and high-quality courses. "I have been working with the Higher Education program since its inception, and it is very satisfying to see the program¹s tremendous growth and success recognized through such a prestigious award,” said Dr. William Lynch, dean of Drexel’s School of Education.
