Drexel University Faculty & Staff Honored for Their Contributions to Online Learning

Nominated by the deans of each college, this year’s Drexel University Online National Distance Learning Week ceremony celebrated 21 Drexel University faculty and staff members for their contributions to online learning. The theme for the night was best summarized by Shawn Brown, a 2008 graduate of the online Master’s in Higher Education program, who emphasized “there are thousands of online students at Drexel who develop a close connection.”

Drexel's Online RN to BSN Program Study Abroad Trip Wins UPCEA Honors

Drexel University Online and the College of Nursing and Health Professions recently received the highly-regarded 2014 University Professional & Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) Mid-Atlantic Award of Excellence for the online RN to BSN program’s study abroad trip to Paraguay. The BSN program’s study abroad option allows online students to gain tremendous clinical and cultural experience in the South American country.

As an online student at Drexel University, Kevin Hannon knew traveling abroad was expensive and didn’t consider the option a realistic goal. Then Hannon received an email from the university asking if he was interested in taking a community health course that culminated in an 11-day trip to Paraguay. During the trip, Hannon had a chance to teach illness prevention in schools and visit local health care facilities while traveling more than 1,000 miles on a bus. Hannon remarked, "it gave me a completely broader perspective on how health care delivery works outside the U.S. It was an amazing experience."

Dr. Aldridge joined the University last October and serves as the senior vice president of online learning at Drexel University and president of Drexel University Online. Drexel University Online Honors Birmingham-area Healthcare Heroes

Drexel University Online hosted a celebration to honor local healthcare heroes at downtown Birmingham’s historic venue, the Alabama Theatre and its Hill Event Center. Close to 75 nurses and healthcare professionals from organizations such as the Children's Hospital of Alabama, VA Medical Center, Brookwood Medical Center, Trinity Medical Center, St. Vincent's Birmingham Hospital and more enjoyed a cocktail reception and free movie screening of the critically important documentary, “NURSES: If Florence Could See Us Now.”

Drexel Teams Up With DCCC To Help Women With Affordable Way Into Workforce

While employment numbers are improving nationwide, local jobs and career counselors say that is not true for women 40 and older. Delaware County Community College and Drexel University are partnering to offer help through a new nursing pilot program. Students are taught by DCCC and Drexel professors, in class, at hospitals and online.

Drexel LeBow Provides MBA Program at Vanguard

Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business will be providing a customized MBA program to selected employees at Vanguard, one of the world’s largest and most respected mutual fund companies. The first class includes 28 students that Vanguard selected from its Valley Forge headquarters, as well as four employees from Scottsdale, Ariz., one from Charlotte, N.C. and one from London. Instruction will be provided in-person at Drexel LeBow’s Malvern campus as well as online.
