Student Testimonials:

"Perhaps the best testimony to the value of these courses, and the Industrial Hygiene classes to follow, is that I can pick up journal articles on different topics and they make sense to me in ways they hadn’t before.

The instructor is top-notch, the course content is challenging, and fascinating, and the approach used has been applicable in so many different ways in my professional work. I am truly glad I signed up for this certificate, and I’ve recommended it to others at work."

- Laura Peitersen, PhD

"My experience with Drexel's on-line Toxicology/IH Certificate Program has been very rewarding. Each week I learn facts that I can use at my job immediately. The on-line format adapts to my schedule as needed.

I travel often as part of my job and can access class materials on-line. Our weekly on-line discussion can be accessed anywhere in the world. I highly recommend this program for the professional on the go."

Provides the basic principles of toxicology & industrial hygiene in the areas of safety and health

Program Overview:

This unique, 4-course certificate is specifically designed for students at the post-baccalaureate level in industrial or governmental settings. Program content provides a strong foundation in both toxicology and industrial hygiene to enhance the student's "on-the-job" performance in the areas of health and safety:

  • Toxicology – the study of the adverse affects of chemicals foreign to the biological system. Evolving from the practices of ancient poisoners, modern toxicology encompasses the study of molecular biology, using toxicants as tools. It is an ever-expanding field, assimilating knowledge and techniques from branches of biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics.
  • Industrial Hygiene – the science and art devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of those environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace that may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being or significant discomfort among workers or among citizens of the community.
