Not yet accepted into a degree program? No problem.

A student who has not yet been accepted into a degree program can still take online classes at Drexel. We simply refer to you as a non-matriculated student. If you wish to apply as a non-matriculated student, please complete the application for this program by the deadline date and choose "Non-Matriculated Status.”

Is there a downside to being a non-matriculated student?

Yes, in some cases. There are limits on the number of classes you can take per term and the total number of classes you can take at Drexel before you are admitted into a degree program. In addition, some classes may not be available to you. For more information, contact your academic advisor. In addition, some tuition financing options may require you to be enrolled in a degree program. In general, although non-matriculated status offers flexibility, once you qualify for a degree program in which you are interested, you should matriculate into that program as soon as possible.

How to Apply

If you wish to apply as a non-matriculated student, please complete the application for this program by the deadline date and choose "Non-Matriculated Status.” Not all online programs offer this option. To find out if your program of interest accepts non-matriculated students, please call 877-215-0009 (toll-free).

Situations in which it makes sense to enter Drexel as a non-matriculated student include:

You are only interested in taking a specific class.

Applying as a non-matriculated student is a good option if there is a particular online course that sparks your interest. It is best to contact your academic advisor before applying to determine what courses may be available to you.

You are not completely sure online learning is for you but are looking for a way to experience it.

Non-matriculated status may be a good option for you. It allows you to experience what online learning is like at Drexel University and find out if you enjoy this type of learning. Many of our students tell us they prefer online learning over on-campus learning because of the constant networking and interaction through group projects, discussion boards, class chat groups and more. But it's an individual preference. You want to do what works best for you.

You have submitted an application, but not all of your supplemental application materials arrived before the application deadline.

As long as you complete all application paper work (including submitting official transcripts), have 24 credits and a GPA of 2.5 or above, you can start as a non-maticulated student and then matriculate in the following term.

You have no prior college experience, but intend to be admitted to a degree program.

If you have strong work experience and an official high school transcript, but lack the 24 college credits from prior studies required to matriculate, you still may be permitted to enroll at Drexel as a non-matriculated student. Once you demonstrate satisfactory performance in your initial coursework, you can matriculate. Note: Before you begin classes, a placement test may be required.

You are enrolled in another college or university, but wish to take a course at Drexel.

You can do that, and transfer your credits back to your home institution.

You have fewer than 24 college credits and a GPA of less than 2.5.

You are only permitted to take 1-2 courses per term, until you reach a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
