Mike Kelly, former Sport Management professor, coach of Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Mike Kelly, former member of the Washington Redskins staff and sport management professor at Drexel, is now the head coach of the CFL team the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. After working for the Washington Redskins  Mike Kelly  joined Drexel University as a sport management professor in 2005. While at Drexel Mike instilled knowledge to his students through real-life examples from his past. Mike served as offensive coordinator for the  Winnipeg Blue Bombers during the 1990s,  took over the Edmonton Eskimos wide receiver coaches position in 2008,   and is now head coach at one of the highest levels of professional football possible.

Drexel Online - MS. Sport ManagementThe online Master of Science (M.S.) in Sport Management at the Goodwin College of Professional Studies is a unique online advanced degree program built on the same strong academic foundation as the campus-based graduate program.

It is designed to help sport administrators and managers understand the connections between nutrition, psychology, management skills and athletics at a level beyond baccalaureate education.

As a graduate of the online Master's in Sport Management, you will serve as a leader in your chosen area of interest by incorporating various perspectives from your multidisciplinary training and applying them to current issues in sport and society.

Curriculum

The online Master's in Sport Management curriculum provides an integrated education experience focused on developing the ability to apply knowledge and skills to the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of sport and recreation programs and offers solutions to practical problems in the sport management field. Taught by faculty including professional coaches, scouts, trainers, and sport administrators, the online program is divided into three segments:

  • Core/Foundation courses – Learn about key principles of sport management such as law, marketing, public relations, economics, media and technology as they relate to the sport industry. These courses are completely online.
  • Summer Residency – A week-long summer residency in Philadelphia is encouraged. This residency will bring students of the online program together in one place during the same week of the summer to take part in a workshop that will include a series of educational and work sessions intended to allow students to interact and learn through both a technical and applied setting.
  • Project/Research Thesis – Utilize the knowledge and skills learned through the M.S. program to produce an in-depth research project or thesis, which will serve to advance the study of sport management.
