An accelerated path for Pennsylvania residents to enter the teaching profession in only 6 months
The Graduate Intern Teaching Certification is designed exclusively for Pennsylvania residents who hold a Bachelor's degree and who seek to qualify for the Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate in order to teach at the elementary or secondary level. Completion of one of the Online core courses and the field experience (student teaching) leads to a temporary Intern Teacher Certificate issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This feature makes the program ideal for those who would like to begin teaching in Pennsylvania in as few as 6 months while completing the remainder of the required courses for teacher certificates.
Drexel University’s Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved programs certify students who already hold Bachelor's degrees to be teachers in:
- Elementary Education
- Secondary Education
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Earth and Space Science
- General Science
- Environmental Education
- Mathematics
- English *NEW*
Students completing the program have the option to continue coursework to earn the Master of Science in the Science of Instruction degree. All graduate credits earned in this certificate program may be applied toward the Master’s degree.
Students Intending to Teach Outside of Pennsylvania
Out-of-State students are not eligible to participate in this program. You are, however, eligible to participate in Drexel’s Post-Bachelor’s Teaching Certificate. The curriculum for this program is identical to the Graduate Intern Teaching Certificate but does not grant the temporary teacher certificates. The Post-Bachelor’s Teacher Certification program is ideal for those who want to teach anywhere in the nation.
