Gain the knowledge, research tools and collaboration skills needed by today’s school leaders.

Using state and national leadership standards, this master’s degree is designed to prepare and mentor future elementary and secondary educational leaders with the practical skills, knowledge, and 600-hour internship experiences to become effective, certified school leaders in rural, city, and suburban schools. Both university faculty and school administrators mentor the student’s leadership development throughout the 4-term internship.
This program is ideal for prospective students holding a teaching or counseling certificate who aspire to lead school change for students’ critical achievement of 21st century learning goals. This performance-based, PDE Approved program results in a student’s demonstration of five major competencies.
- The ability to lead schools and communities collaboratively to solve complex problems in a framework of leadership standards,
- The ability to educate students to achieve 21st century learning goals,
- The ability to mentor and coach teachers in instructional and assessment decision-making, using strong design principles and technology tools,
- The ability to reflect on practice to new action and research,
- The ability to Actively Listen, Resolve Conflicts, Speak Publically, Write Competently and Build Teams.
The program has several campus events each year, including World Café sessions, Leadership Seminars and two Orientation Sessions. A Webinar format is provided for distance learner participation.
The program culminates in an Action Research Project, a Leadership Portfolio of 14 Artifacts of Evidence on applying standards in school activities, and a passing score on the PA Principal PRAXIS exam.
