Curriculum
Based on a quarter system, the M.S. in Global and International Education program expects students to complete fifteen 10-week courses for a total of 45 credit hours consisting of: 6 core courses, 4 primary concentration courses in Global and International Education, 3 secondary concentration courses, and 2 capstone courses (co-op with portfolio). Courses are taught in cohorts consisting of up to 25 students over a 24 month period.
NOTE - for co-op/capstone courses: If you are currently employed, you may use your work at your current place of employment to fulfull this requirement, but typically you must go above and beyond your current job function.
Students enrolled in the MS in Global & International Education program are required to receive the grade of “B” or better in the program’s core and primary concentration coursework. Grades of “C” or lower are not considered acceptable at the graduate level. For the Credit/No Credit grading system, Credit is equivalent to a grade “B” or better and No Credit is equivalent to an “F.” This School of Education policy is in addition to the Drexel University Office of Graduate Studies’ policy that all graduate students maintain a minimum, cumulative 3.0 GPA per term as well as an overall 3.0 GPA for graduation purposes.
Students are admitted as part of a cohort to the M.S. program. Each cohort will start their program of study at the beginning of every Fall and Spring quarters and complete the full program of study after 8 full quarters. Students will enroll in 6 credit hours each quarter and complete the 6 credit hours of co-op during the last quarter of study. The sequence of courses follows:

EDGI 500: Introduction to Global, International and Comparative Education
Exploration and Analysis of international and comparative education. Comparative method serves as the framework to understand comparative analysis. Theories of the state serves as the framework to understand global theories of education across cultures.

Exploration of issues related to economic globalization, politics of globalization, educational change, and the ways individuals and groups of people have changed and must further change to meet new global challenges in the 21st Century.

Analysis of current public policy issues using various models of policy analysis across cultures and the globe with specific emphasis in creating, monitoring and evaluating frameworks to guide education sector policy work.

Exploration of the conditions required for the construction of peace, the various forms of conflict, philosophical bases of human rights, discrimination with particular focus on curriculum reform that emphasizes knowledge, understanding and respect for cultures of others at the national/global level.

SAMPLE OF POTENTIAL ELECTIVE COURSES
EDGI 522: Theory and Practice of Program Evaluation
This course includes the following main parts: (1) the historical development of education evaluation, the main characteristics and leading ideas and practice in every stage; (2) the basic theory and concepts, in which includes the definition of education evaluation, the differences education evaluation and education research, the characteristics of formative evaluation and summative evaluation, the philosophical foundation and theoretical paradigm of education evaluation, the function and the value of education evaluation; (3) the policy and the pattern in various countries (including American, Britain, China, etc ); (4) the concept of indicator system and its application in education evaluation, the foundation of education evaluation indicator, the structure of target system, the weight and qualitative and quantitative analysis; and (5) the development and the practice of higher education evaluation.

EDGI 600: Study Abroad Experience
From a city-base in a foreign country, student actively engages in a country's literary, artistic, and cultural traditions through firsthand encounters with literary specialists, authors, artists, and artisans. Homestay model serves as portal for enhanced opportunities for language acquisition, cultural analysis and interpretation.

From a city-base in a foreign country, student integrates the different perspectives of diverse natural, biological and social science disciplines to improve understanding of relationships between human societies and the natural environment.
