Admissions Criteria

Acceptance in this program requires:

  • A four-year bachelor's degree in any major from an accredited institution in the United States or an equivalent international institution.
  • Official transcripts from all universities or colleges and other post-secondary educational institutions (including trade schools) attended. Instead of hard copy transcripts, you may supply official electronic transcripts issued by a post-secondary institution directly to Drexel University Online (use our email address, customerservice@drexel.com).  You must supply transcripts regardless of the number of credits earned or the type of school you attended.  If you do not list all post-secondary institutions on your application and these are listed on transcripts received from other institutions, processing of your application will be delayed until you have submitted the remaining transcripts.   • A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) for the last two years of undergraduate work.
  • If any other graduate work has been completed, the average GPA must be at least 3.0.
  • Scores from the General Aptitude Test of the Graduate Record Examination. Applicants who have at least a 3.2 grade point average in the last half of their undergraduate work may be eligible for admission without the GRE. This decision is made by the Associate Dean of the College after reviewing the application.
  • Completed graduate school application.
  • Completed Credit for Work Experience Request form - Only fill out the top portion if you will not be requesting credit based on work experience. Otherwise, complete the entire form and submit it with your application. You may submit the form by fax or mail. This form must be submitted even if applicant does not have any work experience to claim.
    • If you are requesting credit for work experience, you must submit a letter of verification from your employer for each job you are requesting be considered for credit. This support will be verified by iSchool Admissions. Each letter may be submitted by fax (to 215-895-0525) or as an email attachment (to customerservice@drexel.com), must be signed and on company letterhead and include the following:

      1. the length (yrs/mths) of your employment
      2. the status (FT or PT) of your employment
      3. a detailed job description

  • Two letters of recommendation, professional or academic.  (Letters of recommendation must be original, signed letters and must be submitted in a sealed envelope signed across the flap by the recommender).
  • An updated and detailed resume.
  • Essay of approximately 500 words on why you wish to pursue graduate study in your chosen field.
  • International Students must submit a TOEFL score indicating a minimum of 600 (paper exam) or 250 (CBT exam) and an IBT  minimum test score of 100. For more information, view theInternational Students page.

Please use the computer skills prerequisites evaluation to measure your technical proficiency for this program. There is no reply needed. It is for self evaluation purposes only.

In addition, students must have prior course work or work experience to meet the MSIS program pre-requisites.
