Residency Visits

The Nurse Practitioner Faculty are committed to quality and excellence in the online Nurse Practitioner (NP) Programs. Campus visits are essential. The residencies afford faculty the opportunity to provide students with direct support, guidance, and mentoring while they provide students with the opportunity to interact with faculty and collaborate with their peers.

The on-campus visits allow faculty to ensure that:

  1. Students are adequately prepared to enter the clinical environment
  2. Students are adequately prepared to graduate from the program.

Students meet on campus for:

  • A minimum of 3 days at the beginning of the clinical practicum rotations
  • A minimum of 3 days at the end of the clinical practicum rotations

Residency Visit I

The Residency Visit at the beginning of the clinical practicum courses normally coincides with the exam period of the Advanced Physical Assessment Course to allow students to finish the course on campus. Students take the final Advance Physical Assessment examination on campus. There is supervised lab time for instruction and practice prior to students re-demonstrating a graded pass/fail head to toe physical examination.

In addition, students utilize the newly built state of the art Standardized Patient Lab to participate in a non-graded Standardized Patient Experience. This digitally taped experience allows students retrieve the encounter for self-review and for review with the faculty while on campus. The visit also includes an orientation to clinical, workshops, lectures, and an opportunity to network.

Residency Visit II

The Residency Visit at the end of the clinical practicum experience includes a Standardized Patient Experience, preparation for graduation, Licensure and Certification, the National Certifying Examinations, and Entry into Practice. Workshops, lectures, and networking opportunities are also available.

Additional Expenses

All travel, dining, and housing expenses incurred for the Residency Visits are the responsibility of the student.
