Mark Shay, Senior Vice President Marketing and Business Development
Mark Shay is a business developer with a long history of success helping higher education institutions recruit students. In an illustrative career that has spanned three decades, Mark has served thousands of customers, ranging from individual faculty members and graduate deans, to university presidents and foreign governments. He is well known for balancing the non-commercial spirit of educators with the commercial realities of operating efficiently and effectively using technology to improve results.
Mark’s most recent success was the launch of IDP Education’s North American expansion, affirming the company position as the world’s largest student placement firm. Under his leadership, IDP established a very credible portfolio of US and Canadian colleges, universities and language schools who use the company to recruit foreign students to their campuses. Now with a regional headquarters in Philadelphia, IDP’s team of twelve university relations professionals serve to increase the enrollments of its member schools and draw new university clients into the cooperative. IDP serves as the universities agent overseas, but is unlike any other agent. Delivering that message and establishing the company’s well regarded brand in the US and Canada was one of Mark’s major accomplishments.
Before coming to IDP, Mark was the founder and former CEO of Educational Directories Unlimited, a leader in the emerging market of computer-based student recruiting. EDU began in the early days of the Internet, creating market-leading online academic directories that connected students with schools including the popular and effective GradSchools.com, StudyAbroad.com and IIEPassport.org. Mark developed a reputation as one of the leading authorities in the field of online marketing of education and in using the Internet to communicate with students.
Mark’s experience with student recruiting has touched all media, all types of programs coming from all corners of the earth. As a pioneer in the lead generation and use of Internet in student recruiting he brings a wealth of knowledge to Drexel University Online. Trained as an electrical engineer, he also knows well that there have been great advances in the practice and that experience is only a base to build from. Having worked both for himself as well as a large corporation he understands the power of a strong team and is drawn to Drexel by both the opportunity, as well as the people.
